The candidate was a nine-year-old water injection well in a carbonate reservoir with an anhydrite barrier layer separating two injection intervals. The well had already undergone three acid bullhead treatments and reached a maximum injection rate of 400 bbl/d when it was new. Before the Fishbones installation, the average injection rate had declined to around 40 BPD at 1,500 psi shut-in pressure, limiting the effectiveness of the waterflood.
A Fishbones Drilling system was installed to connect the upper and lower injection layers. The completion used a 4½” Fishbones Drilling string with 20 subs and 60 branches in combination with six injection subs placed at the toe.

More than tenfold injection increase
Immediately after the operation, the well achieved an injection rate of 4,320 BPD at 1,500 psi surface pressure, representing more than a tenfold increase compared to the pre-job average and far exceeding historical performance.
Sustained higher injectivity
The well has maintained a stable injection rate of around 600 BPD at a reduced pressure of 1,300 psi, confirming a lasting improvement in injectivity.
New full-field injection strategy
The success of the installation enabled the operator to consider a new waterflood strategy, achieving required injection volumes with fewer wells and thereby reducing both capital and operating expenditure for the field.
