Challenge

Improving production in heterogeneous limestone formations

The first Fishbones installation in Iraq was deployed in a heterogeneous limestone reservoir with permeability ranging from 10–40 mD and approximately 10% porosity. The well included a 600 m / 1,970 ft open-hole interval with a water-bearing zone located below the target reservoir section.

The operator aimed to significantly improve productivity compared to conventional matrix stimulation. Offset wells in the area typically produced between 500–1,600 BPD, while the target production with Fishbones was set at 2,000–3,000 BPD.

Solution

Precise reservoir access with Branching Technology

Fishbones installed a 4½” liner equipped with 16 Fishbones Jetting Subs, creating a total of 64 branches into the reservoir.

The system utilized 7 m / 23 ft needles for accurate stimulation placement, while swellable packers provided effective zonal isolation and controlled reservoir access throughout the open-hole interval.
