The operator was to drill a 1,000 m, 6” open-hole section in a tight, heterogeneous limestone formation with permeability between 0.1–1 mD. Offset wells had previously been stimulated with hydraulic fracturing but suffered from unwanted water influx, resulting in higher operating costs and production challenges. A new approach was needed to unlock gas reserves while avoiding water production.
The well was completed with a 4½” liner equipped with 30 Fishbones Jetting subs, delivering a total of 120 branches into the reservoir. Prior to the operation, jetting tests were performed on core samples to verify that the laterals would not penetrate below the target zone, ensuring precise placement and minimising risk of connecting to water-bearing intervals.

Higher production than expected
The completed well delivered production rates around 150% higher than customer expectations, confirming that the Fishbones Jetting system could effectively access additional gas-bearing rock in the tight limestone.
No water production
Thanks to accurate branches placement and careful pre-job testing, the well produced without water influx, avoiding the handling and disposal costs experienced in earlier hydraulically fractured offsets.
Lower well costs and top-field performance
The combination of improved rates, absence of water handling and a simpler completion translated into significant reductions in overall well costs. As a result, this became the best-performing well in this formation.
